Memorial Day, 2010
Dear Friends,
I hope you are reading this upon returning from a restful Memorial Day. This is a note to reach out to you, share thoughts, and to reconnect.
This day always makes me a bit sad as I reflect upon our fallen soldiers and the many wars our relatively young country has been engaged in. Still, it is also a day to reflect, with the deepest gratitude, upon the priceless liberties they fought and died to preserve.
Honoring King's Inspirational Leadership
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the changes inspired by his words and deeds. His leadership has revolutionized our nation and his articulation of his dream has provided a roadmap for the alleviation of injustice.
Health Care Reform, Discipleship, and the Good Samaritan
Dear Friends,
I hope you are reading this upon returning from a fantastic and meaningful 4th of July holiday.
In North Dakota, we truly know how to celebrate the creation of the wonder that is our stable government, the genius of the political processes we have inherited from our Founders, and our tremendously positive contribution to bettering the quality of life not only for our own citizens but for people around the world. Challenges abound in today's world and our track record is not without flaws -- but ultimately, we have so much to celebrate.
All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Dear Friends,
There is much to be thankful for this year
Dear Friends,
It's great to be back in touch with you during this month of two special holidays.
We recently observed Veterans' Day, on which we honor our Nation's servicemen and women, past and present. Soon, we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving and sharing our blessings with friends and families. Of course, also in November, we heard the voices of our collective citizenry in the voting booth and hopefully, the choices they made will shift the course of our nation's policies for the better.
Independence Day: A Day To Be Engaged in Our Democracy
Dear Friends,
This 4th of July, we celebrate the ongoing miracle that is America, secure in the knowledge that a society's citizens are best equipped to determine its future. Our American story is rooted in faith and in hope. We had faith that individual freedoms were worth fighting for, protecting, and advancing. And we had hope that through our collective efforts, this grand experiment in democratic government would prove successful.
